Philippine High School for the Arts needs YOUR help!

PHSA is similar to Philippine Science High School, except that it focuses on the arts. It is located at the National Arts Center, Mt. Makiling, Los Banos, Laguna and has served as a haven for aspiring young artists who would be future leaders in the socio-cultural transformation of our country.

In
September, super typhoon Milenyo wrecked havoc to several major infrastructure
of PHSA. Some of the remarkable Locsin-architected dormitories
and classrooms were also damaged.

Unfortunately, PHSA is also a government institution. Thus, funding
for its rehabilitation must come from the government. PHSA has already
asked the help of the local government units concerned. It has also
sought the help of the Cultural Center of the Philippines and the
Department of Education, Culture and Sports.

While these government agencies have extended some help, PHSA is still
suffering the effects of the storm. The students were required to have
their semestral break as soon as the roads became passable. They only
returned to school on November 5. Up to now, the National Arts Center
still does not have electricity and water supply. They are reliant on
a generator which is turned on only at limited hours during the
evening. The kids have to draw water from drums outside their rooms so
they can take their baths. They hold their classes outside their
classrooms so that they will have sufficient light.

The PHSA community, composed of alumni, students, parents, teachers
and staff, has embarked on fund-raising activities to help the
government in the rehabilitation of PHSA. One of the fund-raising
activities is the homecoming concert of PHSA graduates.

The Benefit Reunion Concert for the Milenyo-hit PHSA will be held on
01 December 2006 at the Francisco Santiago Hall, Equitable PCI Bank
Tower 1, Makati Avenue corner dela Rosa streets, Makati City. ENTRANCE
TO THE CONCERT IS FREE. Donations are sincerely requested. There will
also be an exhibit of artworks of past and present PHSA students at
the foyer. CDs and artworks will also be sold.

Performers for the Benefit Reunion Concert include Vienna-based
pianist Aries Caces, Belgium-based soprano Fiona de Ocampo and
